Hoptrip day 11

Day 11

Deschutes Brewery is an impressive operation—and they know it. Everyone knows it. Their size, their award-winning beer, their adventurous mentality—it’s what has made them one of the biggest names in craft beer. Even their commercial collabs, including one with Patagonia, are cool. So it was with high hopes that we headed to their Public House in the heart of Portland’s Pearl District for our final beer collaboration of this trip.

We showed up early with a box of custom Uiltje Brewing Co. x Voodoo Doughnuts featuring the only Uiltje logo Voodoo’s icing artist could replicate: our screeching owl logo, long since retired. The sugar unleashed a frenzy of brewing, conversation and note-sharing with Deschutes head brewerss Jake Harper and Clay Trout. Paddi did what Paddi does: asked questions, soaking it all up.

During lunch, we dropped a box of Uiltje Brewing Co. x Voodoo Doughnuts at Breakside to thank them for last week’s collaboration. We showed up just in time to taste our collab brew still fermenting in the tank. D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S! We hugged it out and headed back to Deschutes to continue our work. What a great city Portland is, one of the few American cities where you can actually walk between two world-class breweriesJ

What else can we say? Our Uiltje Brewing Co. x Deschutes Brewing collab is gaining its soul as we speak. It’ll appear to lucky Portland craft beer lovers a week or two after Breakside unveils our collab brew down the street. We are tired, we are beat, but we are also smarter, wiser and more inspired than ever about where craft beer is going.
